Maths strategy

WALT: used standard form (algorithms) to solve + and - problems. 

I learned that the strategy makes maths easier

I achieved my goal because I kept With the strategy when I was terrible at it.

Next time I will try bigger equations

I learned to say my parents in Māori Ko Elle tōku mama Ko Glen tōku papa

I achieved my goal because I say my parents correctly in Māori 

Next time I will work harder to say my mountain correctly.

Reading term 2 week 7

WALT: make connections with a text.

I learned that you can connect stories with your life and the world.

I achieved my goal because I made connections with myself and the outside world.

Next time I will think about other stories.

Herb farm trip

I learnt how to plant a seed 

This is an example of the seeds we planted at oderings yesterday 

The steps we had to follow were:

-put soil in 

-put seeds 

-and water it 

I learnt that machines can  plant seeds and soil in the trays 

I achieved my goal of planting a plant.

Compost - topic

WALT: recognise and understand the process used to construct a compost

We can do this when:

• we participate in discussions about compost
• explain how compost is constructed
• explain why we use compost and its benefits

We were very lucky that Mr McCaven showed us the grass clippings that will eventually turn into compost. We learned that the grass clippings will get warm and decompose and then they will help the school gardens grow.

Transformation

WALT: EXPLORE translations through slide, reflect, and rotate on plane shapes.

Success criteria:
 - Use the first letter of your name to slide 
 - Use the first letter of your name to reflect

 - Use the first letter of your name to rotate

Music

WALT - sing the new school song.

Success criteria: Sing using the correct words and attempt to use the correct pitch.

Room 2 sang this beautifully, they used the correct volume and some of them hit some good notes whilst singing.  Keep on practicing room 2 and we could even get some of the moves into the song.-- 

Writing - Character descriptions

WALT: write a character description

Success criteria:

• use interesting words to make a picture in the reader's mind.
• write about what the person looks like
• write about what the person does (actions)
• Write about what kind of person they are (personality)

Tessellation

WALT: predict and create a bathroom or kitchen tilling plan using tessellation.

Success criteria:

- create simple tessellations involving squares and other shapes

- repeat simple tessellations involving squares and other shapes

Symmetry

WALT: make and talk about 2D shapes by using symmetry

Success Criteria:

• identify 2D shapes by name
• name 2-dimensional shapes: triangle, square, oblong (non-square rectangle), circle, oval, pentagon, hexagon and diamond
• describe shape attributes in their own language
• explore and describe faces, edges, and corners of 2D and 3D objects
• make, name and describe polygons and other plane shapes

Play - reading

WALT: practice and perform a fairytale play within a group

WALT: play on the recorder by reading a music sheet.

Success criteria: 

Share Music Making with others, using basic performance skills and techniques (L.2)

Thomas chatterpics - Poetic writing

WALT : write a poem using rhyming words and share it in a creative way.

Success Criteria :

• Rhyming words
• Rhythm (what does it sound like when you say it?)
• Detailed sentences (add interesting words)
• Quality illustration (A4 with jovis)
• Clear speaking voice using Chatterpics (practise at least 4 times before you record)

Great work Thomas on receiving you bronze CARE certificate. It took hard work and you achieved it! Very proud of you.

3d Shapes

WALT:  make 3D foil shapes.

Success criteria:

Make a 3D shape out of paper and wrap it in foil.
Talk about what kind of shape you made.
Talk about how many faces, sides and corners your shape has.

Library session

WALT: read a book for enjoyment.

What that looks like:  

           We are sitting quietly in a spot reading a book and showing respect to everyone else reading.

Writing

WALT: Write a fairytale in our own words. (WEEK 8) - Hansel and Gretel

Success Criteria:

1. Orientation - who (characters), what, where (setting)
2. Problem - what goes wrong?
3. Solution - how do they make it right?
4. Magic !
5. Outcome (Happily ever after…)

Recount writing

WALT: write a recount

Success criteria:

1. The first paragraph says where, when, who, why and how.
2. The events are in order.
3. I will use time words (first, then, finally, etc.).
4. My recount is written in the past tense.
5. Details are added to make my writing interesting. Adding adjectives (no went!)
6. I finish my writing by saying how I felt

Congratulations Thomas on your Principal's award for working hard on your reading and writing at home and school!!!  Very proud of you. Keep up the good work!

Writing

WALT: write some information about ourselves through planning and ICT.

We can do this when:  we write a detailed informative piece of writing and typing it up on a computer.

Next step:  To add more detail to my writing to make it more interesting e.g. descriptive words.

ART portraits

WALT: Create a self-portrait and paint them with water paint.

We can do this when: we use a pencil to draw ourselves with all the elements of a face and painting our portrait using relevant colours by staying within the lines.

Next step:  Use our drawing and painting skills to design and decorate our art mural.

Thomas created a fantastic self-portrait using different bright colours and painting/drawing techniques.  Well done. I like the hair!

Maths

Today in maths we finished our fraction ice creams.

We are learning to:

- Identify symbols for fractions.

- Say the names of fractions correctly.

- Find fractions of groups.

- Show the CARE value Excellence in our work presentation. 

Our next steps are to:

- Apply this knowledge to find fractions of larger groups of objects.

- Improve our work presentation.
